Our Commitment to Sustainability

How the HELUKABEL Group actively minimises its environmental footprint

Hands holding the world on green background

As a family-run business, HELUKABEL takes its responsibility to safeguard the next generation very seriously. Sustainability is a central theme for this, alongside many other reasons. The specialist for electrical connection technology supplies the solar & wind power industries and offers cables and wires for e-mobility, to name a few. In this way, HELUKABEL supports its customers in transitioning to environmentally-friendly technology and renewable energy, which is an important step in the fight against global climate change.

Reducing the company's environmental footprint also occurs right at home. To keep HELUKABEL's impact on the environment as minimal as possible, the majority of the electrical energy used for production, logistics, and offices is cleanly produced by the company itself using its own photovoltaic system. Built in 2021, the administration building at the Hemmingen headquarters meets the highest standards for energy efficiency, and even in the fully automatic logistics centre, sustainable operation is achieved thanks to highly modern drive technology and electric forklifts. The HELUKABEL plant in Windsbach is one of the most advanced of its kind, with machines and facilities being regularly updated to minimise their energy use.

In production, all materials are used as sparingly as possible without sacrificing quality or performance. Waste is separated at a rate of 96 percent and recycled where technically feasible. This applies to copper, a valuable raw material, as well as to synthetics materials used as insulation and sheathing. Closed coolant and heat waste management systems used in production allow for a significant reduction in water and energy usage, and heat from compressors or extruders, for example, can be used during colder months to heat the factory.

HELUKABEL even offers a recycling plan for their cable drums, which are made out of renewable timber. These empty drums are collected from customers' locations by the company, free of charge, and are reused as many times as possible. When the drums reach the end of their operational life, they're responsibly recycled, which also contributes toward saving resources.

For HELUKABEL, thinking sustainably also means social responsibility. The company offers its employees a number of benefits such as helping finance the purchase of a bicycle, as well as offering free training and physiotherapy in their in-house fitness studio. Both in Hemmingen and in the surrounding area, HELUKABEL is involved in many ways, such as in partnerships with schools and supporting sports clubs. Many international subsidiaries are also leading similar initiatives in their home countries, contributing to the HELUKABEL Group's combined efforts to promote sustainability.

Since 2019, the company has been evaluated by EcoVadis, one of the largest global organisations providing companies with ratings based on sustainability. HELUKABEL's rating has only ever gotten better, and in 2024, the company reached the EcoVadis status of "committed". The environmental management system at HELUKABEL is also certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001.
